Close the Care Gap: Recognizing World Cancer Day 2024

On the occasion of World Cancer Day, on February 4th, the Menarini Group is proud to stand with the global community of individuals, families, patient advocates, and healthcare providers who are affected by cancer. World Cancer Day is a global initiative led by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), an organization aimed at raising global awareness, improving education, and driving action for equitable access to life-saving cancer treatment and care.1

This year’s theme “Close the Care Gap,” which has been an essential focus of UICC’s mission since 2022, prioritizes raising awareness of health inequities, to ensure that everyone has access to quality health services, when they need them.2

At Menarini Stemline, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Menarini Group, our team is focused on bringing transformational oncology treatments to people living with cancer globally. As more than 1 in 5 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime,3 we recognize the importance of developing innovative, high-quality therapies to help improve the lives of those impacted.

Menarini Stemline brought the first innovation in endocrine therapy after almost 20 years to the U.S. and Europe in 2023 for breast cancer patients, a major advancement for those with metastatic disease.

In addition, we have both marketed and developed assets in oncology and hematology where multiple myeloma and acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are among key focus areas for our company. Currently, our first-in-class XPO1 inhibitor, is being marketed by Menarini in Europe for multiple myeloma; and our treatment for blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN), a rare, highly aggressive hematologic malignancy that is classified frequently as a sub-type of acute leukemia, is marketed in both the U.S. and Europe.

These milestones are just a step in our steadfast commitment to the community, and our teams are hard at work around the globe to bring even more options to the patients and families who are impacted by cancer. We are proud to recognize the 24th annual World Cancer Day and remain dedicated to driving positive change for the cancer community today and every day.

We commend the dedication of organizations like UICC, committed to making a positive impact on the fight against cancer. To learn more about World Cancer Day and the UICC, visit www.worldcancerday.org
