Fair Play Menarini Award values young people: the finalists and the winner of the 2024 Fiamme Gialle ‘Study and Sport’ Special Award

The 28th International Fair Play Menarini Award is approaching its climax while focusing strongly on young people. During the press conference on Monday, June 17th at Palazzo Guadagni Strozzi Sacrati in Florence, figure skater Agnese Mori was awarded the Fiamme Gialle ‘Study and Sport’ Special Award.

This award, established in collaboration with the Tuscan Regional Committee of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and the Fiamme Gialle Sports Groups, recognizes student-athletes who have achieved remarkable success in their sports and academic pursuits.

During the official event attended by Eugenio Giani, President of the Tuscany Region, Cristina Scaletti, Mayor of Fiesole, and Cosimo Guccione, Councilor for Sports of the Municipality of Florence, two finalists were also honored: Guido Pellegrini, the regional basketball champion, and Alessandro Cosentino, the European freestyle skating champion. Both Guido and Alessandro – like Agnese – achieved brilliant academic results, graduating with top marks, and are now pursuing university studies.

Agnese Mori’s impressive athletic accomplishments include winning the 2022 Junior European Cup in roller skating, an achievement made even more remarkable by the fact that she obtained this title just few months before graduating summa cum laude from the Human Sciences High School.

Thanks to the Fiamme Gialle ‘Study and Sport’ Special Award, Agnese, Guido, and Alessandro will have the opportunity to train at the Guardia di Finanza Sports Center in Castelporziano, where Italy’s top athletes reside and prepare.

The stories of these young athletes demonstrate that it is possible to excel in both study and sport. The rigorous commitment to training often serves as an additional motivation to be proactive also in other aspects of life.

Three key educational aspects instill values in young people: family, school, and sport. The latter plays a crucial role in the development of youth”, commented Tuscany Region President Eugenio Giani. This view was echoed by Antonello Biscini, Valeria Speroni Cardi, and Ennio Troiano, members of the Fair Play Menarini Foundation Board, who stated: “The mission of the International Fair Play Menarini Award is to pass on the healthy values of competition to the new generations. The Fiamme Gialle ‘Study and Sport’ Award is a testament to the fact that it is possible to excel both in sports and academics with dedication, loyalty, and respect for the rules.”
