The balanced life of a Biathlon World Champion: Lisa Vittozzi

February 13th, 2024, marks a significant day for winter sports fans. Lisa Vittozzi, Fair Play Ambassador for Menarini, clinched the gold medal in the women’s 15 km individual at the Nove Mesto World Championships, solidifying her legendary status in the world of international biathlon.
Lisa’s success on the world stage is the result of a lifelong journey that began in childhood, as she explored various sports. Her journey took off in 2013 when she won a memorable silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Obertilliach, marking the start of her competitive career. Over the years, she continued to shine with four podium finishes at the World Cup, including three with the relay team, and an impressive silver medal in the individual event in Östersund in 2019. These accomplishments reached a pinnacle with her recent victory in the World Cup on March 17th, 2024.
After building a strong reputation in major events, Lisa experiences a slight performance dip and encounters a series of disappointing results. Concerns grow as the 2022 Beijing Olympics don’t go as hoped. Despite her undeniable talent, being young meant she experienced some ups and downs. However, Lisa persevered through this tough period, showing her resilience by confronting the challenges head-on and returning to the snow stronger than ever.
“The beauty of sports comes with its share of challenges”, the athlete shared at the 27th Fair Play Menarini International Award. “I’ve faced tough times where I even resent my sport. Yet, fueled by passion, I found the strength to rise again and reclaim my position at the pinnacle. To me, fair play embodies loyalty and respect toward competitors. Authenticity and adherence to rules are paramount in sports and life. The knowledge that my journey has inspired others fills me with immense pride.”
Regaining serenity has become crucial for returning to competitiveness in Biathlon, a complex discipline that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. This sport demands a combination of grit and strength, as well as calmness and precision, all of which are traits Lisa Vittozzi possesses. During the Fair Play Menarini Award in July 2023, following a successful season, the athlete explained: “It takes a lot of training to make Biathlon seem simple. The season went well, I found my balance again. It’s important to stay balanced in a sport so rich in emotions.”

Lisa Vittozzi has captured the hearts of fans through her unwavering determination in competitions, alongside her victories in 2023 and 2024. Her triumphs not only bring joy to the residents of Sappada – her hometown nestled in the Dolomites – but also resonate with biathlon enthusiasts worldwide. During the recent World Championships in the Czech Republic, she solidified her status as a beloved figure among spectators, earning widespread admiration.
The joy of spending time with her family, and her passion for the mountains and outdoor sports are essential elements of Lisa’s simple lifestyle, where fair play holds great significance. Even though 2024 has not yet drawn to a close, it can already be hailed as a remarkable year for the athlete. However, Lisa’s next major ambition is to compete at the highest echelon in the Cortina Olympics in 2026.
